Since being sick and traveling, training has taken a major back seat. However, I am feeling really antsy to start up again. I was hoping to get started with a consistant routine December 1st, however, with the shoot in San Diego December 3rd to the 5th, I may have to wait a few days.
The past two years, I have given myself big breaks of about 8 weeks (2006-2007)and 6 months (2005-2006). I have decided that breaks like that don’t really work for me especially if I want to be at a higher level. I have never felt so motivated and excited about an upcoming season. I think next year is going to be really fun as I have already started organizing training trip withs Katja and Karen. These two girls are so much fun to be around. They both have great energy and are both so dedicated as well as being incredible athletes.
I am still struggling with belly problems. My stomach has been flaring up quite a bit since coming home from Baltimore and I hope to get these issues resolved before my next ironman. I have had doctors give me lots of theories, but nothing concrete, which is a bit frustrating…..Ideally I would like to try to combat my stomach issues with a better diet and no drugs….One thing I have decided is that I will not race another ironman until I get it all sorted out. It’s too hard on me emotionally to have sub-par ironmans or to start an ironman with little confidence. So while I continue to get these issues solved, I plan on doing some half-ironmans, running races, and maybe a duathlon or two.
I think that part of the reason that I am excited to race in 2008 is because I getting back to shorter races without expectations. I am really good at laying out on the line for a short amount of time…no nutrition involved:).
